The HOLLOWS

Technical practice race course with 2 laps, roughly 6 miles and 400ft of elevation gain

This local course starts on a double track road, which provides a great opportunity for race starts. After the road, racers will pedal hard up a steep punchy climb. Later, racers will climb up and descend down some technical switchbacks that are fast with loose debris and off-camber turns. Because of a few technical climbs, most riders will want to be in their lowest gear to avoid dismounting. Racers will have another opportunity to pass along a double-track road before diving again into the trees. This course is designed to be looped twice for an average NICA race length and provides a lot of great technical features, including off-camber and loose turns, sand, roots, rocky bumps, steep climbs, and other features.

Powder Mtn

Steep grades and high altitude with 5.81 miles per lap and 476 ft elevation gain

The course at Powder Mountain is one of the league’s most beautiful venues. The course is roughly 75% machine-cut singletrack with passing opportunities throughout. The course transitions between tree-covered, high alpine to open meadows multiple times. The start is on a dirt road and funnels into singletrack within half a mile. The first singletrack section consists of fast, fun and flowy descending that is sure to put a smile on your face. At the halfway point comes a taste of wooded forest and meadows. You then hit a dirt road climb (be sure to take advantage of passing opportunities!), and connect back onto singletrack where you will gradually climb back up to the finish. 360º course preview here.

Manti, Utah

A spectator friendly course with beautiful, flowy berms and techy trails along a dry lake

This course combines steep climbs, flowy single track, epic berms and a bit of rock tech followed by the finish line right past the Pit Zone! Starting with a demanding climb on a dirt road to spread out the field before funneling to single track, you’ll then descend to the first of eight notable berms before hitting the red dirt section. Enjoy the flowy single track that leads to a short uphill dirt road climb for passing and then hit the fast single track that leads to more passing and a scenic route around the dry lake. The North end of the course takes you through more berms and steep climbs before heading you towards a dirt road for more passing and a short climb before the “Party Turnz!”  Finish off with a bit of technical climbing and a couple more berms before crossing the finish line.  Spectators will appreciate the view-ability of this course!

Snowbasin

Punchy climbs, beautiful alpines, rock gardens, and a bermy descent across a couple streams

Riders stage and start on the access dirt road above the main lodge. This course gets serious right away with a big climb out of the start, so warm up is critical. The course then heads up to the Green Pond Loop singletrack, which features riding through beautiful alpine forest on dark and tacky dirt. A few rock garden sections provide a technical experience for riders. The trail wraps around the mountain and connects back onto a dirt road for another passing section and short climb. The long, sweet descent on singletrack features some newly built berms by Snowbasin. The trail turns and winds through the trees and crosses two tiny streams before dropping back onto the access road. From there, it’s a quick sprint up the road.

Price, Utah

Desert berms and punchy climbs with 4.7 miles per lap and 358ft elevation gain

This course combines fast and flowy singletrack with a steep, punchy climb, followed by a fun, quick descent to the finish line! The course starts with a long dirt road to spread out the field, before funneling to the first singletrack section on the west side of the course, which takes riders along the hillside. The first half of the course is the fastest, but the true test of skill and determination will be on the main climb, consisting of four switchbacks and roughly 100ft of climbing in .3 miles. After the climb, riders will be able to rest and have another fun and flowy section while on top of the plateau, but will eventually descend back down into the valley on the fun, fast descent filled with large, sweeping berms.

Cedar City

Slickrock and sandy roads with 5.8 miles per lap and 384 ft elevation gain

This course combines flowy singletrack with a bit of slickrock tech for an extremely fun finish! The course starts with a small dirt road climb to spread out the field. Riders then turn left onto Twilight Zone, a rolling singletrack trail with slickrock sections and a few wooden bridges with ride-arounds. Next is another section of dirt road to allow for passing before turning onto the Three Peaks trail. Riders will then turn onto another dirt road that starts off flat, but turns up to hit a steep and loose climb (Jesus Hill!). The best descent comes immediately after, with fast flow on the Big Hole Loop and technical slickrock on Lost World. Once the singletrack ends, it’s time to hammer out on a dirt road into the finish area.
